Golden Earring
« on: November 03, 2015, 05:55:17 PM »
Golden Earring actually began in the sixties in the Netherlands, 1961 to be exact. And have been a constant recording and touring band ever since. Pretty much ,in essence making them the longest running recording and touring band in rock as far as I can tell (they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2011 and have performed almost continuously since 1961). The Who, Kinks, Stones all have taken long hiatus' from both recording and touring unlike Golden Earring. Golden Earring also has boasted the same core four lineup of Barry Hay (vocals, guitar, flute, sax) George Kooymans (guitar, vocals)  Rinus Gerritsen (bass, keyboards, guitar) and Cesar Zuiderwijk (drums, percussion) since 1970 and continuing on to the present. Mostly performing in the Netherlands and parts of Europe. The band has not toured North America or outside Europe since 1984. But they have continued on all for all these years releasing a total of 25 studio albums, and some 7 or 8 live releases. A VERY under rated band that is certainly worth checking out.

And they might just be the best unplugged band I've ever heard. The live naked truth acoustic series is ABSOLUTELY worth checkin out.

I agree with the unplugged stuff..still are a tight band that rocks acoustically or electric after all these years.

Still going strong. Love these guys. All just about seventy years old now. This band has been around as long as the Rolling Stones, but have kept releasing non stop new material and touring without much of a break unlike the Stones. They're lineup has remained intact since 1970.

Great show and set list. What can you say about these guys. Always put on a great show. Probably one of the most underrated bands in rock history. Every member is now seventy years old or better and the four core members of this band have been in the band coming up on fifty years. The band will have been around for sixty  years come 2021, as they started in 1961. Unlike bands like The Who and Rolling Stones, this band has been active the entire fucking time span. Pretty impressive.

Was sad to read that Golden Earring has retired after an insane SIXTY (60) years, that has to be one of the longest tenures in rock and they did so with the four key classic members intact for a long long time (51 years). The only thing that made them hang it up was one of those main classic four, guitarist George Kooymans being diagnosed with and treated for ALS and thus rendering him unable to perform. Always loved this very under rated band and unfortunately I never got to see them live but own a ton of their records and live dvd's.
