Talk about playing it safe

Not one song from the Trilogy, let alone Frequency Unknown. I thought he said he doesn't live in the past. Could of at least maybe started the show with three or four newer songs then busted into OM and saved the last few big finish songs of that album for the encore.  :-\

Not all that surprising, he's barely played any of that stuff live following each of those releases in the last five years. He just continues to play the Queensryche stuff at varying degrees of mostly not good quality for the most part.

That's a pretty long set considering he's the opening act. That's about 1hr 15 minutes?

These aren't the Angra opening act dates. This is the kick off run, all headline dates with his daughter's band as the support act.

Here is the first taste.

Other than Scott Moughton, who all do we have here in the band. Definitely a revolving cast of characters.

I don't know who those guys are besides Mouton. A couple of those guys look familiar, they might be the Voodoo's band guys again. Is that Emily Tate doing Sister Mary's part there??? That footage was pretty bad. I'll search and see if I can find some better footage out there.

Wow, good catch NJ. You’re totally right, that IS Emily Tate playing Mary.

Gross.

My Verdict? after two listens. This is the full version and much better quality than the snippet that was posted to blabbermouth.

Not bad actually. I give her an A for effort, she held her own there. Crowd seems pretty into it, good to see. Geoff gave an honest effort here it doesn't sound bad.

What I want to know who the hell are these people in the band at this point???

According to a review from his recent show in Belfast, the players are:

Scott Moughton - guitar
Kieran Robertson - guitar
Bruno Sa - keyboards / guitar
Jack Ross - bass
? - drums
Emily Tate - Mary

https://www.giggingni.com/2018/01/review-geoff-tates-operation-mindcrime-empire-music-hall-belfast/

Both Kieran and Jack play in Emily Tate’s band Till Death Do Us Part (who’s also an opener). So Geoff Tate is probably saving a few bucks having them playing with Operation: Mindcrime.

What are we on now with Operation Mindcrime's renditions, like Sister Mary number four or five  ::) she does ok, I'm surprised the band sounds as good as they do for a bunch of new guys, I wonder how much time they had to rehearse.

I bet he's just using these guys for the over seas shows to save money. So anybody's guess as to who will be in the band when the US dates get scheduled. Completely out of nowhere lineup here, talk about putting the pressure and heat on Mouton to keep everything in synch. Geoff's gonna burn him out fast.

I remember hearing a radio ad back in 1990 for the Building Empires tour where it said something like:  "For the first time, and the last time....hear Operation: Mindcrime in its entirety!"  This is what....the 4th or 5th time that it's being done?  Okay, whatever.

For being youtube clips, they sounded better than I thought they would.  The band half decent, and Geoff sounds better than he has for a long time.  Emily Tate does an okay job, but nothing to write home about.  However, the setlist is predictable, safe, and boring.  Again, how many times has this been done?

However, I'd love to sit with Geoff, pop in the Livecrime DVD, and watch it start to finish.  Then jump online and watch a few of these videos and turn to him and say:  "What the fuck dude!?!?  Livecrime is the standard.  Do it as good or better....or don't fucking do it at all!"

Maybe I'll wait a year and a half when it comes around as the 31.5st anniversary show with a whole new cast of characters.

Some more Operation Mindcrime footage, this one is from Heerlan, Netherlands on January 24, 2018. Looks like they added more shows from what was in the original tour itinerary. Next up is three dates in Norway, then five dates in Germany wrapping up on Feb 11th. Then it looks like that concludes the headline shows before they start up in the opening slot for Angra beginning on March 22 in Belgium.
