2017 Rockers we lost
« on: January 25, 2017, 11:37:43 AM »
Didn't think I would have to kick this off quite this soon, but may as well go ahead and start the list for this year. As I stated before, all the classic rock guys are getting up in age, it will no doubt be another year of losing many of the greats.

The first one to start of the year is Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers, founding member and half of the dual drum tandem of he and Jaimoe. Saw him many times with the Allman Brothers, there was no better double drum jam tandem then those two.

It looks like (former) Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nicholls passed away this morning after a long battle with lung cancer. I wasn't aware he had been sick. Iommi broke the news on his Facebook page. Condolences to the the family, friends, and fans of Geoff.

R.I.P. :(

Add another of my favorites to the list. John Wetton (Asia, UK, King Crimson, among many other bands and collaborations) died in his sleep this morning. One of the absolute best singers and bass players of the progressive rock genre. RIP  :(

Sib Hashian- Boston drummer that played on ,well what I would call the only two Boston albums that really matter Boston and Don't Look Back (with all due respect to a few songs from Third Stage) which Sib quit the band during the recording of.
He was 67 and collapsed and died while onstage playing on the Legends of Rock cruise.

John Geils (71) founder of the J Geils Band joins the list apparently of natural causes. They were always a great live band!

A few other notable additions this month.

James Cotton: renowned blues harmonica player who played with countless other artists including Howlin Wolf, Muddy waters, Steve Miller, Greg Allman and his own James cotton blues band,  3/16/17 age 81.

Keni Richards: Autograph- age 60 4/8/17

Banner Thomas: (age 63 4/10/17) original bass player for Molly Hatchet who played on all the bands classic albums (debut s/t, Flirtin With Disaster, Beatin The Odda, and Take No Prisoners. He was a member of the band from 1974-1981, and returned briefly in 1993.
R.I.P brother
Dreams I'll Never See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq6mFereCCc
One of my top three favorite southern rock bands along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers.

And I don't care what band this guy drummed for or who they were, he belongs here, simply because he shared two of my passions firefighting (and he died doin it) and rock and roll.
William Tolley: Age 42, Drummer for Internal Bleeding and FDNY Firefighter (line of duty death) very sad and tragic story.

Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died aged 52.

In a statement to the Associated Press, his representative, Brian Bumbery, said Cornell died on Wednesday night in Detroit.

Bumbery called the death “sudden and unexpected” and said his wife and family were shocked. The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.
