Ace Frehley

The Space Ace will be forever remembered as a founding member and lead guitarist of Kiss. But he has also released the solo album back in 1978 when each of the Kiss members released a solo offering. Ace's was arguably the most popular and best selling of the bunch containing Rip It Out, New York Groove, and Fractured Mirror among others. Anton Fig played drums on that record, Ace and Anton would later go on to play together in Ace's post Kiss band Frehley's Comet, which released two albums in 1987 (Frehley's Comet) and 1988 (Second Sighting), along with the EP Live+1.

Ace would then dump the Frehley's Comet name and release another solo offering in 1989 (Trouble Walking). From 1996 through 2000 he rejoined Kiss for an original lineup reunion album and subsequent tours before leaving again. His next solo album wouldn't come until 2009's Anomaly, followed by another long hiatus until 2014's Space Invader. He has also recently released the Origins Vol. 1 album last year in 2016.

Focusing on some of his non Kiss material. I would offer these as some pretty good ones.

I love Ace even though his solo music is hit or miss. There's definitely some shining moments-- with a lot of filler too. His '78 solo album still remains his best. He'll ALWAYS be a member of Kiss to me. Be that as it may, I'll most likely go see him this Friday in Tempe. A version of Enuff Z'Nuff is opening the show apparently.  8)

Who is in his touring band, that 2017 live link I put up, it looks like he has Richie Scarlett back, Is that Richie?

Richie is awesome, I saw him multiple times playing with Mountain with Leslie West. and met him real cool dude.

Yes, Richie is back with Ace along with Scot Coogan on drums and Chris Wyse on bass. This lineup came through town last March. Overall it's probably Ace's strongest lineup to date. They're relatively tight albeit with some reckless abandon. In typical Ace fashion ( :D).

I like this cover of Sweet's Fox on the Run, not as good as the original, but it's pretty cool.

Ace at M3 Rock Festival this past weekend.  I hope he hasn't fallen off the wagon.  This sounds worse than when I saw him in 2016.

That was a tough watch and Ace was my favorite member of Kiss and I love Richie Scarlett saw him several times with Mountain, he's a crazy cool dude. But that was a rough set. I don't know why. The crowd looked as baffled watching that as I did lol. He appeared pretty unhappy with the sound board folks. Maybe it was just cause it was a festival show. I'll have to check some footage of another recent or upcoming date.

I blame that on the festival sound mostly, and maybe just an off night. Much better cohesion, sound and show here live NY the night before M3. Vocals are clearer and better too but no one ever said Ace was a top tier vocalist  8)

I always liked Ritchie on guitar and no complaints about his rhythm section either.  Scot Coogan on drums and vocals (he sings better than anyone before or currently in KISS lol) and Chris Wyse on bass.  Agree it was probably the festival setting (not using your sound board/FOH or monitor folks) and the fact that Ace is deaf as a post anymore and was never gonna challenge for vocalist of the year even in his prime.  With his backing band being so good, Ace's not so good nites really stand out.
