I saw the Tempe show last night (3/3) and overall I enjoyed it. I have to agree that Take Hold Of The Flame doesn't work acoustically. I'd say the same for Hundred Mile Stare as well. Regarding the latter, perhaps it was just a poor arrangement.

It was a smart move to play Jet City Woman earlier in the set this time. Personally, I think it should be dropped altogether in favor of another deep cut. But I digress.  :(

My second favorite highlight of the show was The Fight. Great arrangement I felt, and arguably better than the studio version on 'Resurrection' to my ears. I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded.

The absolute showstopper for me was Blood. Definitely a shocker and a welcome addition to the set. One of Queensryche's finest moments of the 21st century. It was a great rendition. That said, I wish the "story" prior to it was about the song itself as opposed to general commentary about the human condition. I guess Tate didn't want to rock the boat. Rightly or wrongly.  :-\

I have to wonder if it was mere coincidence that they played it considering how much we've discussed it here (and the old site) in recent months!  ;D

I give The Whole Story... tour 3.5 out of five stars.  :)

Never saw that Dio Memorial footage I don't think, that was pretty cool. Hard to believe Ronnie has been gone that long already.

Tate can definitely hold his own in the acoustic setting. I enjoyed most of those. Nice to hear some of those different songs that don't and won't get any live play from Queensryche, not that I really want them to waste spots in the set on those songs anyway I'd rather hear Geoff sing and do those and would much rather have the band concentrate on the early material and hopefully more new Todd fronted songs going forward.

I actually think Tate's rendition of Hallelujah is pretty fuckin' horrendous. But then again I've heard really, REALLY good versions of that song over the years. I always joke that if a performer at a goddamn folk festival ever wants a standing ovation, all they have to do is perform this song even moderately well and they'll get one. People just eat this fucking song up for lunch.

For the first minute or two of the song, I couldn't even tell what melody Tate was working on. It sounds aimless. It gets better as the song goes on (maybe he finally started to remember the tune) but ultimately not a fan of the different melody he puts on this.

I was at the City Winery venue in New York about a month or so before he played there last year. Very cool place.
That Man/Machine Imperfection guy didn't post too much, but he was pretty much always right.
