Live, The rock band formed in York, PA and consisting originally of Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals, guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar, vocals), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums) have announced the original lineup will be reuniting for a 2017 tour and are currently working on new music for release next year as well.

The band was active from the release of a 1989 self released "The Death of a Dictionary" which was credited to their former name of Public Affection. Followed by an EP of demo's in 1990 titled Divided Mind, Divided Planet via their mailing list. In 1991 they changed their name to Live. As Live, their first release was an EP entitled four songs, featuring the single Operation Spirit (The Tyrrany of Tradition) followed by their full length debut album Mental Jewelry, which will celebrate it's 25th anniversary next year as it was released on December 31, 1991.

The band rocketed up the charts with their sophomore effort "Throwing Copper", released in 1994 featuring the hits Lightening Crashes, I Alone, Selling the Drama and All over You. Eventually hitting number on the Billboard top 200 in May, 1995. The album has sold over eight million copies in the US alone. In 1995 they appeared on MTV Unplugged.

The follow up to Throwing Copper was "Secret Samadhi", released in 2007. This album did not enjoy the same level of massive success as its predecessor by sold over two million copies and included the singles Lakini's Juice, Rattlesnake, Turn My Head and Freaks. In 1999 the band released their fourth full length album "The Distance to Here" which entered the US album chart at #4 and featured the hit single The Dolphins Cry. In 2001 the band released their fifth album, simply titled "V" which following the release of the first single Simple Creed garnered mixed reviews, but the song Overcome would be the albums selling point after receiving much airplay following the events of 9/11/01. The V record peaked at #22 on the US album charts and failed to achieve gold status. Birds of Prey was released in 2003 reaching number 28 on the US charts with the successful hot 100 single Heaven. In 2006 they released "Songs from Black Mountain" which reached #52 on the Billboard 200, the first single was "The River." In 2007 the band released Radiant Sea: a compilation of bootleg rarities and two new songs, followed by a 2008 live dvd in the Netherlands titled "Live at the Paradiso - Amsterdam".

In 2009, Live announced they would taking a two year hiatus to work on other projects, as Kowalczyk released a solo album, while the others formed a band called "The Gracious Few". In 2012 the band reformed without lead vocalist Ed Kowalczyk, with new singer Chris Shinn (Unified Theory) This lineup produced the album "The Turn" released in 2014 (peaking at #133 on the Billboard 200).

The original lineup is now preparing for a new album and a 2017 tour with Ed Kowalczyk back as the front man.

I saw Live only one time in Oct. 2000 co-headlining with Counting Crows. I look forward to their return. I hope they play 'tbd', 'Rattlesnake', and 'White Discussion' in the 2017 set ( ;D)! Great band. Definitely a high point of the 90s without question.
