Hawkwind
« on: December 10, 2016, 02:05:54 AM »
This English band, one of the first of the Space Rock bands and have also incorporated progressive rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock and are cited as a proto punk influence. These guys have been around since forming in 1969 led by founder, songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist Dave Brock, who remains the bands only original member in their present configuration. The original lineup included Brock, John Harrison (bass), Dik Mik (keyboards, synthesizers), Terry Ollis (drums), Mick Slattery (guitars), and Nick Turner (sax, flute, vocals). All but Mik and Turner would be gone and replaced by 1971 when one Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead) joined the band.

Lemmy was a member of the band on bass and vocals from 1971 through his firing in 1975 which led to his forming Motorhead. Motorhead is actually named for the Hawkwind song Motorhead, which was the last song Lemmy wrote with the band.

I'm not going to into all the different lineups and incarnations of this band, as they are several. More than fifty different musicians have passed through this band since it's inception. Other notable members include stints by Ginger Baker (Cream) in 1980 and 1981, and Arthur Brown even performed with the band during the span of 2005-2007.

This band has released over 25 albums, for those interested Lemmy appeared on three studio albums
Doremi Fosol Latido (1972)
Hall of the Mountain Grill (1974)
Warrior on the Edge of Time (1975)

The current lineup consists of:
Dave Brock: vocals, guitars, keyboards (1969-present)
Richard Chadwick: drums, vocals (1988-present)
Mr. Dibs: bass, vocals (2007-present)
Niall Hone: keyboards, synthesizers, programming, guitar, bass (2007-present)
Haz Wheaton: bass (2016-present)

Their most recent release was released this year in April, 2016. a concept album entitled "The Machine Stops" and they continue to tour.

Lemmy was the man, that 72 show was really cool. They had some spaced out shit. Cool to see him doing Silver Machine in 2004 with them.  8)
