Here is a band that was the beginnings for some members of some very successful bands later down the road. Formed in 1969 in England by vocalist John Jones and guitarist/keyboardist Terry Rowley along with guitarist Mel Galley (later of Whitesnake), lead vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (later of Deep Purple) and drummer Dave Holland (later of Judas Priest) this lineup released their debut album. The core and most familiar lineup was  Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley and Dave Holland which released Medussa (1970), You are the Music, We're Just the Band (1972). Glenn Hughes left the band after the 1973 to join Deep Purple. Galley and Holland recruited guitarist Rob Kendrick and bassist Pete Wright for 1974's Hot Wire, and another self titled album in 1976. Hold On (also called Running) was released in 1978, again featuring Pete Wright, with the addition of new guitarist/singer Pete Goalby and a live album as well Live in Texas: Dead Armadillos featuring new drummer Pete Bray as Holland had left by late 1979 to join Judas Priest, Pete Goalby left to join Uriah Heep in 1981. Galley would tour the band one last time after Goalby left before the band would disband and Galley would join Whitesnake.

In 1991 the trio of Hughes, Galley and Holland would reunite joined by Yes/Asia heyboardist Geoff Downes for a short tour. A live album of that tour Welcome to the Real World was released in 1993. In 1994 the trio would reunite for the Ray Gillen tribute concert, which led to a UK and USA tour.

Mel Galley died of cancer in 2008, effectively ending any chances of a future reunion.

I immediately thought Humble Pie and Free as who they remind me of mostly. Can definitely also here where that funk bass of Hughes that he infused into Deep Purple a bit came from. Mel Galley and Dave Holland were very tight in this band.

Black Cloud and Medusa definitely sound like Humble Pie or vice versa. Some of that funk influence on Turn it on again and Midnight Flyer obviously made it's way to Deep Purple on stuff like Getting Tighter from Come taste the band, your right on the money there. They also have the trade off lead vocals like Purple would later have with Coverdale & Hughes.
