Cactus
« on: September 10, 2016, 02:43:52 AM »
Cactus was the next step for two founding members of Vanilla Fudge (1/2 the band) after their initial breakup in 1970 (Vanilla Fudge have since reformed, actually multiple times since and are currently touring with all the original members minus Tim Bogert who retired in 2008). Cactus featured the two Vanilla Fudge alumni Carmine Appice (drums, vocals) and Tim Bogert (bass, vocals), in addition to blues guitarist Jim McCarty (Mitch Ryders Detroit Wheels, Buddy Miles Express), and lead singer Rusty Day (The Amboy Dukes).

This initial lineup produced three albums:
Cactus: 1970
One Way...Or Another: 1971
Restrictions: 1971
After which Jim McCarty quit the band, and Rusty Day was fired.

The band released a fourth album with Appice and Bogert joined by Werner Fritzschings (guitar), Duane Hitchings (keyboards) and vocalist Peter French (Leaf Hound, Atomic Rooster).
'Ot N" Sweaty (1972)
The band then disbanded completely in 1972, leading Appice and Bogert to hook up with Jeff Beck for the short lived (one studio album BBA and one live album BBA live in Japan in 1973-74.

A band called The New Cactus Band sprang up featuring no original members, but included Duane Hitchings from the 'Ot N" Sweaty lineup in 1973, they released one album called Son Of Cactus before disbanding.

Rusty Day put together a new version of Cactus, with him as the sole original cactus member in the lineup, his band toured from 1976- 1979. Interesting note: Rusty Day was murdered at his house in Longwood, FL in 1982, He and his son were shot to death by a gang of drug dealers, the case was never solved and remains open.

Cactus reformed in 2006 featuring original members Carmine Appice, Tim Bogert and Jim McCarty joined by vocalist Jimmy Kunes (Savoy Brown), and Randy Pratt (harmonica). They released the album:
Cactus V: 2006
Tim Bogert retired in 2008 and was first replaced by Dean Rubinson, then by Pete Bremy in 2011 who is in the current lineup.
The band released the live album Tokyo Nights and DVD TKO Tokyo in 2014.

The current Cactus lineup features:
Carmine Appice (drums)
Jim McCarty (guitar)
Jimmy Kunes (vocals)
Randy Pratt (harmonica)
Pete Bremy (bass)

The bands latest album "Black Dawn" was released August 30, 2016 nd they are currently touring.

They were billed as the "American Led Zeppelin"....a little bit maybe but that is up to the listener to decide that.

"Grease it up Timmy".....
