Jefferson Airplane/Starship/Hot Tuna
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:22:55 PM »
Jefferson Airplane was from San Francisco formed in 1965. They pioneered the counter culture movement and psychedelic rock. They were headliners at the three most famous American rock festivals of the 1960s—Monterey (1967), Woodstock (1969) and Altamont (1969)—in addition to the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968).

Their 1967 break-out record Surrealistic Pillow ranks on the short list of most significant recordings of the "Summer of Love". Two songs from that album, "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", are among Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

The "classic" line-up of Jefferson Airplane remained stable from 1967 to early 1970, and consisted of Marty Balin, Jack Casady, Spencer Dryden, Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen and Grace Slick. The group broke up in 1972, and essentially split into the two bands, Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

I was surprised to see a concert announcement for Jefferson Starship, who will be playing at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, NJ October 5, 2019. I didn't think there was any way the band would continue after Paul Kantner passed away a few years ago, but apparently David Freiberg who was a co-founder with Kantner has resurrected the band, the band consists of Freiberg , along with Donny Baldwin on drums (1981-89, 2008-present) who was a member during the early eighties successful album run rounded out by keyboardist Chris Smith (1998-present), and Kathy Richardson on vocals (2008-present), and guitarist Jude Gold (2012-present).

I may try and check out this show, I looked up their recent set lists on setlist.fm and it's a pretty good set list.

David Freiberg was a legitimate member here we go again with a 2 Member band
calling themselves that band. I have seen them enough times don't think I would
spend the money on this one.
