Rare Earth
« on: June 01, 2016, 02:14:48 AM »
A guilty pleasure 70's band that had a hand full of hits and enjoyed some moderate success. They could also jam when they wanted to, which will be what I'll mostly focus on. The band still plays to this day featuring sole original member Gil Bridges. Pete Rivera (Hoorelbeke) drums and lead vocals (from the early years up until
1974) deserves mention as he was a driving force during their most popular era.

One World Album was my favorite from this band who I did get to see twice.
Highlights were a cover of Ray Charles what'd I Say, The Seed, I just want to celebrate and Any Man Can be a Fool which was sung by John Parrish aka John Persh who was the bass player. John died in 1981 at age 34 of a staph infection. I was fortunate to get to meet Rare Earth's Pete Rivera (Hoorelbeke) twice when attending The Classic Rock Allstars concerts also in that group was Mike Pinera Iron Butterfly, Jerry Corbetta of Sugarloaf, Spencer Davis from the Spencer Davis Group and Dennis Noda from Cannibal and the Headhunters who died in 2009. I met all of them. They were all great guys. They put on a great show each doing 3 or 4 of each bands greatest hits including InnaGaddaDaVida.

Peter Rivera (Hoorelbeke) original drummer and lead vocalist for Rare Earth live at Saloon Studios in West Jefferson, NC on 6/23/18. Little over an hour and a half performing many Rare Earth and some new material from his solo album. This dude sounds great here, hasn't missed a beat. Peter is now 75 I believe.
