Anthrax
« on: May 13, 2016, 11:41:50 PM »
How bout some Anthrax...
One of the Big Four, Pioneer thrash band out of Queens, NY. formed in 81 by Scott Ian and Dan Lilker. The biggest of the East Coast thrashers at the time in the early to mid eighties as most the rest were from the west coast ,in particular mostly California. They had a nice peak in the mid eighties and then enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence with John Bush from Armored Saint replacing Joey Belladonna (he being the third singer to front Anthrax, but arguably their most popular) I'm split right down the middle, I have seen them with Belladonna and I've seen them with Bush. Being that I'm a big Armored Saint fan and only was a casual Anthrax fan, my biased favorite would be Bush. I did however like very much "Among The Living" and "State Of Euphoria" albums, but for my money the John Bush era albums especially "The Sound Of White Noise" equaled or bettered those early albums.

Have to start with this one, an anthem in the 80's

Two great Anthrax covers that do major justice to the original releases. The first is a bit of a surprise and nicely done.

Carry on Wayward Son (Kansas cover); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVD5iqAcIbQ
Neon Knights (Black Sabbath cover);  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp77usK-B0A

Joey's voice is amazing.  Blew me away when he sang Boston's Smoking and Journey's Keep On Runnin' on their Anthems EP.  Plus Cheap Trick's Big Eyes.  Love to hear him on the John Bush era stuff too.

Carry On and Neon Knights were both done very well. Loved both of those.

I was listening to The Sound of White Noise this morning (still the best John Bush album, as far as I'm concerned) and noticed there was an extended version of the album, which included their covers of Auf Wiedersehen, Cowboy Song and London, along with the strings mix of Black Lodge.

Kinda surprised they didn't also include Poison My Eyes from the Last Action Hero soundtrack and Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun from the Beavis and Butthead Experience.

Man, 1993 was a really good year for Anthrax.
The problem is that you are correct.
