Spirit (Randy California)
« on: January 19, 2016, 11:08:53 PM »
Another underrated guitar player from the late sixties and seventies was Randy California and his band Spirit. They had a few hits along the way and a few albums that received a lot of praise from critics. The band also spawned Mark Andes later of Heart, and john Locke who went on to play with Nazareth for a while in the late 70's. It has been a long standing contention that Jimmy Page stole a lot of Randy's guitar tricks while touring with Spirit in the early days, most notably the intro to Stairway to Heaven was accused of being copied from Spirit's song Taurus. Randy California died tragically in Hawaii in 1997 saving his son from drowning but drowned himself in the process. Great guitar player and some good songs.

Check him out!
