Stevie Ray Vaughn
« on: November 03, 2015, 08:39:47 PM »
This guy more or less single handedly brought the blues in to the 80's with his guest playing on David Bowie's Let's Dance record in 83 but did not tour with him instead played with  his own band Double Trouble thru out the 80's

One of the biggest influences in blues guitar there is, his style which was a cross of Albert King Jimi Hendrix and a few other Texas guitar players (Winter,King ,Collins) among others made many chase after his legendary sound (Fender Strat/Amp Tube Screamer /Cry Baby wah pedal and heavy guitar strings that would be impossible to bend on anybody else's guitar). He battled alcohol addiction through out his career but got sober and made his finest record..In Step he also did a record with his brother Jimmie who was in The Fabulous Thunderbirds shortly before his untimely death in helicopter crash in Aug 1990.

Start with Texas Flood in 83 but to be honest all his records were killer but he is somebody that's truly missed today with his playing, there are many who copy but there was is and always will be only one Stevie Ray Vaughn!

It's hard to believe it's been 28 years to the day since Stevie passed (Mon. 8/27/90).  I was on the way to my first day of class, my second year of college.

If memory serves, the radio reported that Stevie might have been in the helicopter when it crashed. A couple of hours later, it was confirmed that he was one of the ones killed early that morning.  :(

A terrible loss to the rock world indeed. R.I.P. Mr. Vaughan.  :'(
