I'm a hard sell on this lineup because I am such a huge Steve Walsh fan, I have a hard time getting fully behind Ronnie Platt fronting the band. I listened to recent live performances with him and I just don't feel the need to spend too much time on those when I can watch older footage with the classic lineup or at least with Steve Walsh. That isn't to say that the music isn't performed adequately enough, because it is. The vocals while pretty decent just don't sound enough the same to me for some reason.

I listened to a few songs from the last album Prelude Implicit and the music is good. The vocals are decent he is an adequate replacement. I chalked it up to just my not really being all that interested in new music from a lot of these classic rock bands that have been around for an eternity. I rarely buy any of the new releases or spend too much time really delving into their new material unless it really blows me away. There is just so much music out there and limited time to enjoy it all, so I tend to gravitate to past favorites rather than expand my horizons too much with the older bands that can't possibly match their earlier output. That's just me.

However, they just released the first single from The Absence of Presence album, and I really like this tune. Musically and the vocals. This is a bad ass song, if this is a strong representation of what this album is going to sound like, then I will really dig into this record. If it isn't, at least they nailed this song.

Pretty good. They covered it all in that song. good harmonies, acoustic, some heavy parts, lots of good violin they really covered all the bases there. definitely has a classic Kansas flavor to it.

Well, you knew there would be a ballad or two. One has been released. It's actually a pretty decent song and kind of fitting for the crazy times right now I would say.

I look forward to hearing the whole record. So far, pretty promising. With only Rich Williams and Phil Ehart remaining and both now 70, coupled with the fact that I'm just not a real big fan of Ronnie Platt's vocals. I doubt I would go out of my way to see them live at this point, but at least they are releasing some good new material.

yeah, that is always the thing with these bands. they are long past their prime, up in age and even if the whole classic lineup were to reunite I wouldn't pay to see it at this stage. I give everything a listen that these bands produce but it all dwarfs compared to their prime years for sure. It's a stigma they all are aware of and I actually give them props for continuing to create under those circumstances, which is why I always give them all a listen. Some bands have thrived with new blood and later incarnations but they are the minority.
