Cream
« on: October 30, 2015, 11:51:25 AM »
Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. They didn't stick around together too long but they perfected the power trio format and jam virtuosity in quick order. A Blues/Jazz explosion. They pretty much only spent about two years and change together as a band in the sixties from 66-68. TWO YEARS, that means in that short span they produced Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of fire (2 discs), and Goodbye, not to mention two live albums ( cream live vol 1 and 2) three if you add the BBC live released later on. And enough material to span a box set  (which I have) that I think spans 4 or 5 discs. Several awesome songs produced in just a two year span, How many other bands did that in that short order?

Not only that, but to add to that short mystique they only ever reunited for a total of 6 or 7 shows in 2005 since. And with the passing of Jack Bruce last year it will never happen again.

On just the Cream material output alone, I'd say Clapton deserves to be up there on the greatest guitar players list.

They probably get the credit along with Iron Butterfly as being the first to do extended long jams and long drum solo's, in addition to being a very bombastic over the top showoff band kinda like ELP would draw some scorn for a little later down the road and for bringing bass guitar to the fore front of the sound, the likes of which were probably only done by Tim Bogert (Vanilla Fudge) and Grand Funk at the time. Blues/Jazz yes, but you bet your ass they inspired Heavy Metal.

No denying this bank could smoke.

This is pretty bad ass for all the Ginger baker fans out there. Here is his son Kofi Baker doing the long drum solo from the Blind Faith song Do What Ya like live on Feb 10, 2017 at Callahan's Music Hall.
Impressive to say the least  8)
