CLASSIC Rock (Diamonds in the rough)
« on: October 15, 2015, 05:36:12 PM »
We've been having some fun with the Hair Metal/Heavy Metal Classics (Diamonds in the rough) thread. How about one for the Classic Rock lost favorites, lost classics, lesser known bands and songs. Classic Rock spans a wide variety, so basically anything pre 90's that isn't really metal is pretty much fair game here.

Everything from The Monkees, Jefferson Airplane, Bad Company, Bread, REO Speedwagon, Styx, The Cars, BOC right up to Duran Duran, The Cure and Depeche Mode would fit this designation I would say. There were so many big selling artists back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and even into the 90's with record sales being huge in that day and age, lots of good stuff never made the bigtime or got pushed to the back burner.

What are your favorites?

I'll kick this one off with one of the nastiest guitar songs I've ever heard. This guy should be a household name ,but isn't. If your not familiar just give this song a listen.

Canada has lots of great unknown classic rock bands.  It's not all just Rush and Triumph up here.

Coney Hatch is one of my favorites, but are mostly unknown.

Saga, Queen City Kids, Streetheart, Harlequin, Kick Axe, April Wine, Honeymoon Suite

I guess that is another reason to have been lucky growing up in Canada as far as music goes.  April Wine was pretty darn big up here (and are still popular enough at fairs and festivals), still hear them daily (sometimes 2-3 times a day).  A few greatest hits packages out there too.  Same for Honeymoon Suite.

Heavy Metal Kids: these guys were like a punk and rock band that featured Mickey Waller, Gary Holton, Danny Peyronnel who later was in UFO for a brief while in the  70's, John Sinclair who went on to play with Uriah Heep in the 80's. They used to tour quite a bit with UFO in the UK back in the day. Evidently they were pretty popular in the UK.

Montrose....that 1st album is a classic. Rock The Nation, Bad Motor Scooter and Rock Candy all kick ass. RIP Ronnie Montrose and it was the debut of Sammy Hagar.

Bullet: An Atomic Rooster off shoot formed in 1970 releasing their debut The Entrance To Hell and then being forced to change their name to Hard Stuff, due to a US band already going by the same name.
