Nazareth
« on: October 14, 2015, 01:53:53 PM »
Another CRIMINALLY under rated and overlooked band, especially in America.
If you've never dug into their catalog, you might wanna check this band out. They're catalog is all over the place from heavy, to soft, bluesy, hard rock and all points in between but there's a little of each type of music in their catalog to be enjoyed by just about everyone.

For all discussion of Nazareth, their members, tours, links, etc.

Here's a few of their heavier songs along with a few great ballads. I'm sure everyone knows Love Hurts and Hair of the Dog, but theres a lot more where that came from. Dan McCafferty was always one of my favorite singers and sadly he has COPD and can no longer tour, Those cigarettes and the scotch will probably kill him, but man it produced a one of a kind voice.

So hard to pick just a few but I'll start with these.

I wore out this 8-track, loved it, hard to find now.
I'll have to hit up the used record store near my wife's office in North Seattle now to see if the have this!

Sad thing is those cigarettes and whiskey did screw his health up so he had to leave the band a while back, don't know who is the new singer but hopefully he'll make the fans happy and Dan proud....those are very hard shoes to fill.

Dan McCafferty covering The Great Pretender from his 1975 solo album, which featured Zal Cleminson, Manny Charlton, Roger Glover and Hugh and Ted McKenna from the Alex Harvey Band. Mostly more mellow this solo album was, but it has it's moments.

Here is the full 1975 solo album.

Another band I'm going to bark about here is releasing an album of new material. This is another band I've long been a big fan of. However, gone is Darrell Sweet (R.I.P), gone is Manny Charlton (great underrated guitarist), gone is later day members Zal Cleminson and John Locke, and even for good measure Billy Rankin (replacement of Charlton), and most recently due to ongoing health concerns gone is Dan McCafferty the voice of Nazareth for their entire existence up until recently.

With all due respect to new singer Carl Sentance and longtime guitarist Jimmy Murrison (with the band since 1994). This band should have retired and hung it up following Dan McCafferty stepping down. This band now consists of one original member Pete Agnew on bass, his son Lee on drums and the aforementioned long time guitarist Murrison and new singer Carl Sentence.

Again at first listen, this sounds like an AC/DC Karaoke bar band.  ::) Some of these bands really need to hang it up. Pete is 71 , does he really need the money that bad at this point. This is NOT the Nazareth I was a big fan of, not in the slightest. Jesus Christ.

It's better than that new Guess Who song, but no this is no longer Nazareth with it down to just the bass player. That would be like Queensryche with nobody left but Ed Bass, Crue with just Nikki, Dokken with only Pilson, Purple with only Glover. No thanks.

This next new song blabbermouth put up is better than the first one. But this band has no business calling themselves Nazareth with only Pete Agnew. That is the sad reality of it.
