In all my years of listening, I have never heard it like that!  And after listening to the isolated vocals on the master track, I still don't hear it like that!  :)   To my ears, Tate is most definitely saying: "cuh-lose our eyes".

I just realized Empire celebrated its 30th anniversary a couple weeks ago on August 20th. It's not my favourite QR record, but it certainly helped bring me in as a fan. Happy 30th, Empire!

I noticed In the Studio released an episode about Empire for the album's 30th anniversary, but it turns out it's the same episode they used for the album's 25th anniversary. Even the previous link now takes you to the "new" episode.

Still a GREAT episode, but nothing we haven't heard before.

To this day I still dispute the release date of 8/20/90. Perhaps that's when it was sent to radio stations!  ;D ... :D

I distinctly remember Empire being released on Sept. 4th, 1990. That's when my local Tower Records received it. The video for the title track debuted on MTV's Headbanger's Ball on 9/1/90.

Still, great album though! I give it 3.5 to four stars.

Sep 4, 1990 was actually the US release of Empire. It must've released everywhere else on Aug 20, 1990.

Yes, perhaps it was released internationally first. Fair enough.  8)  ... :D
