The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band:

The prominent lineup in the 70's was Alex Harvey (vocals), Zal Cleminson (guitar) who would later play with Nazareth for a while, Chris Glen (Bass), Hugh McKenna (keyboards) and Ted McKenna (Drums) Tommy Eyre would later play keyboards. A very under appreciated and under rated band but a big underground hit in the 70's. Again this bands music is diverse and all over the place, best to start with an anthology probably to dig into this band to see if you like them. I guess they'd be considered glam and hard rock at their height. Here's a broad range sample of what they brought to the table:

Some of these guys would later play with some metal bands too (MSG,Gary Moore) and also a hard rockin blues player Rory Gallagher. A great backing band for Alex to get his point across so here I'm going to put up my fave SAHB song....Midnight Moses...enjoy!

From the 1978 Rock Drill album, which would be their last. This album saw Tommy Eyre replacing Hugh McKenna due to an internal conflict but he is still co credited on three songs from the album.

The best song on the album.

Here are a few from his pre Sensational Alex Harvey Band albums.

Penicillin Blues- from The Joker Is Wild (1972) with his brother Les Harvey on guitar, who was a member of Stone the Crows and they had done a version of this song also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAAbihpIeMc

Two from Roman Wall Blues (1969) also featuring his brother Les Harvey. This song was later performed with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band also.

Sadly drummer Ted McKenna has passed away suddenly, due to complications from a routine hernia operation at age 68. Great drummer from one of the greatest bands that hardly anybody's ever heard of, very underrated band.
