Allman-Betts Band
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:31:03 PM »
Devin Allman and Duane Betts, sons of Allman Brothers Band members Greg Allman and Dickie Betts respectively, have formed a new band called the Allman Betts Band, which also includes Berry Oakley Jr (son of Allman Brothers original bassist Berry Oakley SR) along with slide guitarist Johnny Stachela, and a double percussion tandem of R. Scott Bryan and John Lum. Former Allman Brothers band keyboardist Chuck Leavell, and former Greg Allman Band keyboardist Peter Levin perform keyboards on the soon to be released debut album.

Allman Betts Band Finish Album and Announce Tour

The Allman Betts Band have announced that they have finished recording their debut album and will be hitting the road next spring for their first world tour.

They recorded their debut album at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio with producer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine and Elvis Presley) and expect to release the effort in the spring of next year. A studio video can be seen here.

Devon had this to say, "What an honor to make a record at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. It was very important to me to make a 100% analog recording on 2 inch tape to try and evoke the vibes of the records we grew up with. To do that in such a historic place is so profound to us. Also, producer Matt Ross-Spang is a longtime friend and the perfect cat to help our vision. There's some classic 70's rock feels, some RnB, some Texas, some Nashville....soulful Americana, with teeth. We are stoked to share it with the world in Spring 2019."

Duane added, "I'm very proud of this record. The song always ignites the flame, the connection to the listener and I feel like we have accomplished that. What an honor it was to record in Muscle Shoals, a place so rich in musical history and to work with Matt Ross-Spang who shared the same vision as Devon and I. We are very excited to share with everyone soon!"

The Allman Betts Band will be kicking off their world tour on March 28th in Torrington, CT at the Warner Theatre. Devon is currently on the road and joined by Betts as a special guest. See all of the dates below:

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I didn't find the time to get in on the presale, but I grabbed tickets for that one tonight (still got pretty decent seats) Ticketmaster's fucking per ticket service charges are ridiculous (let me say it again  >:( ) Of course since that show is Feb 15'th I won't be doing a second Queensryche show at the Starland ballroom, as this is the same night. But I've really been wanting to catch these guys live.

There isn't a bad seat in that place though really all areas have a good view of the stage.

Saw these guys this past Saturday night at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood NJ. The band is touring behind their debut album "Down to the River" Great, Great show. The Scottish Rite theatre holds a decent amount of people and I've been to several shows at this venue, I've never seen it and the parking lot and surrounding parking areas this full ever. Completely sold out show. Every Allman Brothers Fan in the area must have attended this show. As they feature three members that are offspring of original Allman Brothers band members. Devon Allman (Greg), Duane Betts (Dickey) and Berry Duane Oakley (Berry Sr.) augmented by Johnny Stachela on guitar (and a mean slide guitar player), New Jersey's own John Ginty on keyboards, John Lum and R Scott Bryan on drums and percussion.

They could have easily just played an Allman Brothers set and everybody would have been happy, but touring in support of their debut album release they gave a good taste of the new record performing several songs from their debut album, and man did the songs come alive. These guys are some seasoned songwriters and arrangers. The new songs were excellent and were performed exceptionally. Their debut disc is a must hear for southern rock and Allman Brothers fans. They played a fourteen song set clocking in at just about two hours even.

They did not disappoint with throwing a few Allman Brothers Band songs in the mix, performing Midnight Rider, Blue Sky, and short but sweet version of In Memory of Elizabeth Redd. They also performed a kick ass version of one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs Shakedown Street, along with a cover of Tom Petty's You got Lucky and a bad ass jam song Mahalo, a Devon Allman's Honeytribe cover that had a mean Santana vibe.
