Vinnie Vincent
« on: December 02, 2017, 01:48:33 PM »
Vinnie Vincent (Vincent Cusano) is best known as Ace Frehley's first replacement on lead guitar in Kiss and for his solo band the Vinnie Vincent Invasion which also featured singer Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum who would go onto form Slaughter. Vincent was the last member of Kiss to have a unique makeup design (the Ankh Warrior) until the band were first shown without the makeup on MTV in 1983. Vincent first appeared on an album by the band Treasure which was led by Felix Cavaliere former Rascal's front man and fellow New Yorker in 1977. He then moved to Los Angeles and was a staff songwriter for the Happy Days and Joannie Loves Chachi series in 1980. He has also played with Dan Hartman, and the bands Hunter, Hitchhiker and Heat dating back to 1970.

During Vincent's time in Kiss he played lead guitar on six of the nine tracks on the Creatures of the Night album, co writing three and recorded the Lick It Up album, co writing eight of the albums ten songs. He was terminated from the band in 1984 following the Lick It Up tour. He was brought back in the mix in 1992 to co write three songs for the Revenge album before falling out of favor with the band again.

The Vinnie Vincent Invasion was formed a year after his departure from Kiss, the band first featured Robert Fleischman on vocals for the debut album, he was soon after replaced by Mark Slaughter, the rest of the lineup included Dana Strum and Bobby Rock for their debut album in 1986. The band released a follow up album in 1988 All Systems Go. The band broke up in 1989 with Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum then former Slaughter. Vincent then reunited with Robert Fleischman in 1989-90 and recorded some demo's, some of which would be later be released in 1996 on the ep Euphoria.

Vincent has been absent from the music scene for many years thereafter but will attending the 2018 Atlanta Kiss Expo in January.

First concert EVER was KISS' Creatures Of The Night tour in March 1983, with a new band called Motley Crue opening. Say what you will about Vinnie's (over) playing, but his contributions to the band should never be minimized. The worst offenders being Paul and Gene!  >:(

Having said that, I think that Creatures Of The Night is a FAR better album than Lick It Up. Be that as it may, I'm glad I got to see this short-lived version of KISS, their last in full regalia (until 1996, when the original and REAL KISS reunited). Good times!  :)

I would have loved to have seen either of those tours, especially creatures of the Night. I like both albums, but I'd give the nod to Creatures. Also love the first Invasion album. really cool that you got to see Crue in the early days too  8)

I watched and listened to that whole entire Kiss expo footage. Some really cool info and stories. I don't follow Kiss that closely not sure how much of this is new information or if much of this was already known, but I'd tend to suspect that Gene and Paul's versions of things are much different than quite a bit of what Vinnie was sharing. His is a book I would definitely read. I've read Ace's and I think Peter wrote one, I would like to read that one. Gene and Paul I have no interest.
