Queensryche Online Message Board History/Archive
« on: October 30, 2017, 10:42:00 PM »
Ok, I have no idea how to chronologically categorize this, so this is going to be a loosely structured collection of some interesting facts and findings regarding the history of the Queensryche online community and fan message boards and forums as touched upon in the Beat Down Room thread recently.

Several items have been unearthed and will be posted up in here. Some of these contain some interesting stuff but some are a tedious read that will require some time to browse through. Some are just informational links and page views, others you can actually follow the archived conversation of the message board involved.

This thread is going to cover "The Void", "Sanctuary", and Screaming In Digital (SID) boards along with some odds and ends from the old Queensryche.com band boards. Some of this material will no doubt probably go missing in due time  ::) as soon as the word gets out to whomever might not like the fact that it exists. So I would recommend that anybody interested in these makes a copy of them as some contain quite a lot of reading material.

This stuff is definitely a blast from the past and I'm sure many of the people who participated in these probably have no idea it is still available. I have briefly skimmed through some of this material but have not taken the time to thoroughly go through them. God knows what is in these old archives but I'm sure they will provide some interest and enjoyment to anyone who was a part of these old message boards ( I was not).

One thing I did notice is that they provide some pretty interesting time lines and piece together some of the background info on the Queensryche online community dating back to what I believe to be their beginnings. There were a few other sites that I am also currently looking for some info on, but these seem to be the most widely known ones. Most of these all predate the Bdr, except for the earliest version of the bdr from the mid 2000 years. Everybody on here I think knows the story of the bdr's beginnings, so yes that site came to be primarily as a direct retaliation to issues that occurred on the Queensryche.com board (That has been stated many times by Samsara) so that part of it is well documented already.

Here are some various looks at the Screaming In Digital site. These are just screen shots of the home page, layout etc and the online newsletter E'zine thing they distributed. A lot of this stuff does open if you click on the various links and stuff on the pages, you gotta fool around with it some. some open, some don't.

Here are a few glimpses of the old Queensryche.com main pages and some message board topics and open threads from some years back, followed by a few crazy things from when the site went into maintenance mode and Geoff hijacked the site to announce his new lineup, and I had to throw in the Frequency Unknown video of why the album sucks contest from the website.  ::)

Here is an interesting old link base of Queensryche related websites circa 2003 I believe it states.
http://www.theroc.org/mus-link/bands/q/qryche.htm

Here is Brett Millers "Before The Storm" History of Queensryche. A very well done band biography that he did back in the day. All the sections of this page do function and you can read the whole thing.
https://web.archive.org/web/20000831084823/http://www.firesky.com:80/rja/bts/

The Crossroads Edge circa 1997  Queensryche Official. Most of the click links are dead or no longer exist but this has some good background info on the players at that stage in this one.

The Void message board.

Downloadable archives of The Void message board from September 1995 through June, 1996

https://web.archive.org/web/20000926031950/http://www.rockonline.com:80/archives/qryche/

There is a lot to read and skim through here. Some of it is pretty comical and a lot of it is just nonsensical gibberish but I'm sure there are some interesting tidbits and nuggets in these if you dig for them. Anything of interest can be isolated and cut and pasted on here if anybody finds something good. It's like an Easter egg hunt  ;D I didn't have the time or patience to go to crazy skimming through these in depth.

The Void message board it seems later went to a more threaded/structured format, but it doesn't look like those were archived. So much like some of those old bdr archives, here you just get the layout and structure for informational/discussion topics view.

If you scroll down a half a mile past the long winded political posts that somebody named Master of Puppets posted, you can see where this message board pretty much dies out.

Some interesting info and general background stuff in some of those at a quick glance. I started skimming through some of the message board archives till I got a headache from scroll reading  ;D I'll work my way through it. I started at the most recent with the Sanctuary stuff in terms of the message board stuff that you can actually read through. You do have to go through a lot of horseshit to get to some actual band related posts. From what I've seen so far, them people were worse than us. They had a beef with everybody and even fought amongst themselves.  :o

Agreed Eye9. Anyone who thinks this thread is a "return" to the spite and venom of those early sites clearly have no idea what they're talking about. Also, we've provided plenty of credible examples to support our statements. No comparison.  8)

Wrong Place, you are right about one thing.

 People come here to complain.

People complain about each other, and whatever floats their boats.
You complain about these people complaining.
 Now, I'm complaining about you.
 What a wonderful world!!!

You want to share some serious Queensryche notes? Sorry, you're at least 5 years too late. Now, you'll have to find something to complain about if you wanna fit in. It appears that you do just fine here though.

Now all we need is another "Mike Portnoy Queensryche bashing" interview, and we'll all have entertainment for months to come!!!!!!

Joy of all Joys: Bri-Dawg decided to unmask and go back

legal career will come to a screetching halt when I
inform his counselor in law school about his website.

Does this guy have friends outside of qr.com?

HAHAHA  >:D

ROTFLMAO! That Brian Heaton character. He never ceases
to just crack me up. Now he's over on another board
trashing his "public" over at QR.com! He thinks he's
such a celebrity! And is so "tired" of all the
adoration, that he just can't stop namedropping and
telling people at the drop of a hat that he wrote for
the QUEENSRYCHE FAN CLUB MAGAZINE. You know, the one NO
 ONE ever gets???

 Here's a sample of little Brian's ego...er, posts.

Talking about how lovely things are over at .com:

"...I posted some things over there about respect, and
being kind to one another, and different things...and I
 got slammed.
People are just assholes ('scuse me (name deleted) but
this required a vulgar term) sometimes."

 *sigh*
Sometimes I wonder why I try so hard to be a
contributing member of that board. It gets ridiculous."

 Next post:

"...but I'm soooo damn tired of it. EVERYTHING I say
gets warped to something else, and I CAN NOT STAND
 people
putting my every word on a pedestal. It's like "DAMN IT
PEOPLE! how many friggin' times do I have to say
 this?!?!?!"

 *sigh*

 -Brian"

EXCUSE ME??? Putting your every word on a pedestal???
Whyever would they do that, if they weren't led to
believe you were SOMEONE??? And who told them that you
were?? Maybe your umpteen posts about "knowing
something", "telling Kev ol buddy", "Sean, we'll discuss
this later", "I write for the EoQ", "I think the band
should do this/that/the other". What a little
self-important, hypocritical dipshit you are. Oh wait,
you're a QR fan, aren't you? Then you are normal.

 ;D

My take on the Sanctuary board regarding the 2000 and 2001 archives is that place was an absolute waste of space full of fucking morons  8) I would have never wasted my time on that absolute joke of a site.

to elaborate further. based on my reading through that mostly garbage ranting. Anything remotely resembling actual Queensryche or music related discussion of any significance could have been condensed down to a few dozen pages if your lucky.

Yeah, by then it was crap.  The late 90s archives would be a trip if we could get our hands on them.

John DiBella (aka Xanadu/Xanadu Records) was bootlegger and the law suit being discussed had to do with the fact that he had registered geofftate.com and held it for ransom in retaliation for being shafted by the fan club for, well... bootlegging QR shows.  Tate was having a shit hemorrhage over that one since his first solo record was about to be released and his domain name was in the middle of a hostage crisis.  The irony here is that Tate should have seen that coming because someone had done the exact same thing years earlier with queensryche.com and the band had to buy it, too.
