Donovan says it was page here's the article:
In the booklet that came with Donovan's 1992 double CD, Troubadour: The Definitive Collection 1964–1976, Allan Holdsworth and Jimmy Page are listed as the electric guitar players and John Bonham and Clem Cattini (spelled as "Clem Clatini") as drummers on the recording. However, according to John Paul Jones, who arranged and played bass on the track (and also booked the session musicians), Clem Cattini played the drums and Alan Parker played the electric guitar.[9] This line-up was confirmed by Cattini.[10] In Donovan's autobiography, he credits Cattini (spelled as "Catini") and Bonham for the drums.[3]

On Jimmy Page's website, he lists this song as one on which he plays.[11] Donovan said that Page was the guitarist in Hannes Rossacher's 2008 documentary Sunshine Superman: The Journey of Donovan, where he also asserted that the song ushered in the Celtic rock sound which would lead to Page, Jones, and Bonham forming Led Zeppelin soon afterwards. In Donovan's autobiography, he credited both Page and "Allen Hollsworth" as the "guitar wizards" for the song.[3] However, he also says that "Hollsworth" had played with Blue Mink, which was a band that Alan Parker had played in.[3] In the autobiography, Donovan said that perhaps this session inspired the creation of Led Zeppelin.[3]

The tambura which Donovan himself plays on the track had been given to him in India by George Harrison, and in his autobiography, Donovan said that with the drone of the tambura he had created "Celtic Rock".[3]

The session was produced by Mickie Most and engineered by Eddie Kramer.

Donovan had originally hoped Jimi Hendrix would play on the song, but he was unavailable.[8][3] In fact, Donovan said he wanted to give the song to Hendrix for him to record, but that Mickie Most "flipped out" when he heard the song and insisted that Donovan should record it himself as his next single.[3]

The Clash were an English punk rock band that formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk. Along with punk, their music incorporated elements of reggae, dub, funk, ska and rockabilly. For most of their recording career the Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, lead vocals), Paul Simonon (bass guitar, vocals) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums, percussion). Headon left the group in 1982, and internal friction led to Jones's departure the following year. The group continued with new members, but finally disbanded in early 1986.

John Graham Mellor (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002), known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was a British musician, singer, actor and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the Clash, a punk rock band that was formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk. Their music also incorporated elements of reggae, ska, dub, funk, rap, and rockabilly. The Clash were one of the most prominent of the emerging bands in the UK punk rock scene, with their second album, Give 'Em Enough Rope (1978) reaching number 2 on the UK charts. Soon after, they began achieving success in the US, starting with London Calling (1979), and peaking with 1982's Combat Rock, reaching number 7 on the US charts and being certified 2× platinum there. The Clash's politicised lyrics, musical experimentation, and rebellious attitude had a far-reaching influence on rock, and alternative rock in particular.

Strummer died suddenly on 22 December 2002 in his home at Broomfield in Somerset, the victim of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.

Ringo Starr-It Don't Come Easy    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvEexTomE1I

Recording of the new composition was begun at a late-night session on 18 February 1970 at Abbey Road's Studio 2, during the Sentimental Journey album sessions.[5] At this stage, the song was known as "You Gotta Pay Your Dues". On this first session, George Martin was producing, with Harrison playing acoustic guitar and directing the other musicians – namely, Starr (on drums), Klaus Voormann (bass) and Stephen Stills (piano).[5] Twenty basic track takes were made, with take 20 being labelled "best". Starr then added a lead vocal and Harrison added two electric guitar parts, finishing at 4 am, with the song being mixed into stereo.

On 19 February, after overdubs onto "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing", recording resumed on "You Gotta Pay Your Dues", with Starr overdubbing another lead vocal.[5] Harrison was not present at the session that evening, although Eric Clapton may have been involved.[6] During the session, Starr decided to remake the song; a new basic track was then taped between 7 and 11 pm. Take 30 was labelled "best" and onto this take, two bass parts were added. This version was also discarded, however, since Starr again decided to remake the song.[5]

Official version[edit]
Recording for the third version of "It Don't Come Easy" began at Trident Studios on 8 March 1970. Harrison produced the sessions[5] and played guitar. Voormann and Stills contributed as before, while the other participants included Mal Evans (on tambourine) and Ron Cattermole (saxophone, trumpet).[7] Overdubs were added to the new basic track on 11 March, again at Trident.[8] The song was then left until October 1970,[9] at which point further overdubs were made, including a new piano part, performed by Gary Wright.[8] According to his recollection in a 2002 interview, Jim Keltner added maracas to the finished recording, at Trident, having arrived in London in February 1971 to escape the Los Angeles earthquake.[10]

When news of the sessions reached the press in March 1970, Apple had told the music press there were "absolutely no plans for the record to be released as a single at the present time", and the song remained unissued until early 1971. An early mix from the sessions has appeared on bootlegs, featuring Harrison on lead vocal. While the instrumentation is almost identical to the released version (the horns have not been added yet), during the guitar break, the backing vocalists, Pete Ham and Tom Evans from Badfinger, add the line "Hare Krishna." This can be heard on the final Starr release, although buried in the mix. Following the guitar solo, rather than there being another verse, there is a repeat of the song's opening guitar phrase from Harrison, again with the backing vocalists singing 'it don't come, oh no, you know it don't come easy" twice, with Harrison adding a few shouted lines behind them before returning to the verse. Subsequently, there are some additional backing vocal lines.[citation needed]

Robert Hazard who I've seen 3 Times

Robert Hazard, born Robert Rimato, (August 21, 1948 – August 5, 2008), was an American musician known for composing and recording the song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", which Cyndi Lauper covered, turning the song into a best-selling hit. He also composed the 1980s new wave and MTV hits, "Escalator of Life" and "Change Reaction", which he performed with his band, Robert Hazard and the Heroes, which was popular in the Philadelphia club scene during the 1980s. These songs appeared on the five song EP Robert Hazard, released in 1982.Hazard's first major-label album, Wing of Fire, was released by RCA Records in January 1984.

Spiral Staircase-More Today Than Yesterday  RIP Pat Upton  7/27/2016
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuqHlv1YPe0

Pat Upton, an Alabama native who toured and composed with the group "Spiral Starecase," died today at the age of 75.

Upton, a native of Geraldine, also was on stage for the final show of Ricky Nelson, the 50s TV star and 60s pop star who played his final gig at Upton's club in Guntersville before his plane crashed.

Upton grew up in Geraldine, and performed with his brothers in a gospel group. While in the Air Force, he joined a band that evolved into Spiral Starecase (the name borrowed from a movie of that era, and intentionally misspelled) that had had the hit "More Today Than Yesterday" in 1969. The song peaked at 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that year and earned a gold disc.

spiral starecase.PNG
After the band broke up, Upton went back to being a session musician and later played guitar on Nelson's last album. Nelson asked him to join a tour to promote the record.

"It was going to be two or three months," Upton said in a 2013 interview with AL.com. "It wound up being nearly four years."

Nelson played his final concert in Guntersville, on Dec. 30, 1985. He performed at PJ's Alley, which Upton owned. On the night of the final show, Nelson asked Upton to fly with him to Dallas. But Upton was too busy with his club. He took Nelson and Helen to the airport, ran an errand, then returned and had one last good-bye.

"I just try not to dwell on it," he later said of the evening.

After the show, Nelson and his band loaded a DC-3 at Guntersville Airport en route to Dallas, where he had a New Year's Eve booking. Four hours into the flight, the plane crashed, killing Nelson, his fiancee Helen and five members of his band.

William Royce Scaggs (known professionally as Boz Scaggs; born June 8, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He gained fame in the 1960s as a guitarist and one-time lead singer with the Steve Miller Band, and in the 1970s with several solo Top 20 hit singles in the United States, including the hits "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle" from the critically acclaimed album Silk Degrees (1976), which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. Scaggs continues to write, record music, and tour.

Limeliters folk singer Glenn Yarbrough dies at 86
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Glenn Yarbrough, a founding member of folk trio The Limeliters, has died. He was 86.

The folk singer's daughter, Holly Yarbrough Burnett, says he died surrounded by friends and family at home Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee, after suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, dementia and other health issues.

Yarbrough sang and played guitar with fellow Limeliters members Lou Gottlieb and Alex Hassilev from 1959 and 1963.

The group was known for such songs as "There's a Meetin' Here Tonight," ''City of New Orleans," ''A Dollar Down" and "Lonesome Traveler."

Yarbrough left the group in 1963 and had a solo career that spanned nearly 40 years. He achieved his highest charting success with the 1965 song "Baby the Rain Must Fall." It reached No. 2 on Billboard's adult contemporary chats.

Minnie Julia Riperton-Rudolph[1] (November 8, 1947 – July 12, 1979),[1] known professionally as Minnie Riperton, was an American singer-songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You".
In January 1976, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy.[3] By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had metastasized and she was given about six months to live. Despite the grim prognosis, she continued recording and touring. She was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not disclose she was terminally ill. In 1977, she became a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. In 1978, she received the American Cancer Society's Courage Award which was presented to her at the White House by President Jimmy Carter. She died at age 31 on July 12, 1979.[3][4]

The Peppermint Rainbow was an American sunshine pop group from Baltimore, Maryland. They formed in 1967 under the name New York Times, playing to local gigs in the mid-Atlantic states. They were signed to Decca Records in 1968 at the behest talent agent Alan White at Action Talents in NYC, who brought them to New York and showcased them for producer Paul Leka who saw them play and sing both a medley of The Mamas & the Papas and The Fifth Dimension tunes. They changed their name to The Peppermint Rainbow following their signing by Leka.

Under Decca the group was produced by Paul Leka; their first single "Walking in Different Circles" b/w "Pink Lemonade" did not chart. Their second single, "Will You Be Staying After Sunday", reached No. 4 on KHJ on 2 April 1969 and No. 32 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on 3 May 1969, selling over one million copies and receiving a gold disc. The song also reached No. 21 on the Cash Box Top 100,  and in Canada it peaked at No. 19.

The group made an appearance on the 2 May 1969 episode of The Generation Gap television quiz show from which the promotional clip of the song originates. As with most similar clips of the period, the performance is a lip-and-finger sync, noted mainly by the fact that none of the electric instruments are plugged in.

Another single entitled "Green Tambourine" also did not chart despite the fact that Leka had stripped away the vocals of The Lemon Pipers' hit from the previous year and given the backing track to the group to record their own cover. Their third release, "Don't Wake Me Up in the Morning, Michael", hit No. 54 the same year.

Their LP, Will You Be Staying After Sunday, barely missed the Top 100 of the albums chart, peaking at No. 106.

After recording three more post-album singles which also did not chart, including "Walking in Different Circles" (which had some minor airplay in the UK), and "You're the Sound of Love", the band split up in 1970, after which the chorus of the latter tune would come to be re-arranged and re-recorded in the early '70s as "We're the Sound of Love" and used as an ID jingle for a number of radio stations featuring love songs prominently on their playlist.
