I had always hoped for a full length Crimson Glory disc with Todd; or at least a live disc with him and the band.

Too bad CG are major procrastinators.

Agreed, Have loved all the live material I've seen online with Todd. He does a hell of a Purple Rain too  ;D I hold out hope maybe a live Crimson record will surface in the future. Even if not, I think you'll see Todd doin some side projects here and there like recent to step outside the box a little on occasion.

I wonder if he's really that busy with QR that he couldn't do the odd show with Crimson Glory. I was happy and lucky to see them 2012. They were fantastic!

I'm sure if CG really wanted to do a few one-offs with Todd, that they could find a way to make it work.  I just get the feeling that music is not a priority for at least some of the CG memebers right now.

He also runs his own business out of his home office while not on the road, which is more lucrative the the music biz.  It still requires his direct attention, so I'm sure QR is his creative priority.

Is there a source on this? I don't follow the subject too closely, but I thought I heard an interview where he said he had to give up an upholstery business or something similar in Florida. I'm not doubting you, I would enjoy learning more about his business.

He's shared numerous times on Facebook about his business as an insurance agent.  He makes enough money on that that when TSO offered him the front man slot, he had to turn it down since he wouldn't have been able to live on the same wage.

That does ring a bell, I was able to track down an interview where he brought that up. He did Insurance adjusting and ran an upholstery business for 17 years, cool stuff. Here is the link for anyone interested http://youtu.be/yjot9dxi8gM?t=18m15s

He did or DOES do this insurance work. That work ,while somewhat flexible is time consuming and requires quite a bit of travel (either local in state running around, or multiple states running around) I wonder if that has any bearing on why we haven't seen any long broad tour itinerarys as of yet from Queensryche since he has taken over. Maybe that's possibly a factor in the fly ins and short clustered dates we've seen. just an observation
Title: Re: Todd La Torre
Post by: RTM on October 17, 2014, 07:56:22 PM
In the link it said that he did insurance work, but I'm not sure if he misspoke. TonyFlyingSquirrel would have a better idea than myself, I haven't heard of it at all with the exception of this interview.

Either way, I see no way a band of Queensryche's caliber is going to be waiting around and not touring because their hired singer is off working on insurance claims, but who knows.

Based on this interview, Todd is not currently running his upholstery business. It's a nicely done interview.

I don't think so.  When I talked with him about adjusting at the Belterra show in March, it was all past-tense.

Well then, I stand corrected.  He must finally be able to live off of his QR salary alone now.  Thanks for the clarification.

Jon Drenning seems very happy to be a father these days.  You can't fault a guy for that, but it's a shame that a studio album and live album with Todd never happened.

Todd featured on two songs from upcoming limited release from Rat Pack records titled Deep Cuts and Rarities. Looks like a handful of cool items are included in this set.

Here is the article on it which features Todd doing Barracuda from Heart with Craig Blackwell, not sure who Craig is (I'm assuming he is guitarist), doesn't say who plays drums on it. This version kicks ass, Todd sounds good on pretty much everything he sings on.
 http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/queensryche-singers-cover-of-hearts-barracuda-featured-on-deep-cuts-rarities/

Here is Todd handling the vocals on Michael Angelo Batio's cover of Rush What You're Doing. This one kicks ass too. Batio can fuckin play and Todd sounds great here too.  8)

Just weird to hear a guy sing Barracuda.  Todd does a great version of it but I feel the same about his version as I do about Adreniline Mob's version (which Russell Allen does as well as Todd on).

Here are a few more cool ones of Todd that haven't been added here yet.

Todd helping out Jeff Scott Soto with his band SOTO, last year in Tampa, FL on I Am A Viking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hboDRx8zxWs

Todd having some fun on drums with Slaughter on Mad About You from back in 2014 at Hairapalooza in Florida.

Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple cover) live with Matt LaPorte 2012 Florida. Todd on drums and vocals  8) Man does he channel some Dickinson on this one, sounds more Dickinson than Gillan.

Psyaxis: Black Dawn Rising. Todd guesting on vocals live, not perfect sound quality but get to hear him doing some heavier metal here from 2012.

NOOO... watch making them babies. The world already has too large of a population, that is why we're in this mess because the Chinese have to eat, and basically eat and farm every filthy creature that moves lol.

But yeah, I'm sure there will be a ton of new releases now in the next year, these bands all have plenty of time to create now. Some may opt to just take a rest since they all have to tour damn near nonstop to make a living. But many will work on new music I'm sure.

There's a lively chat on La Torre's Facebook page (on 3/13/20) regarding a very timely and thought-provoking meme that he posted.

Soon thereafter, it unfortunately devolved into a fan tirade against perceived socialism, for whatever reason. It's a great read, and I applaud Todd for his unwavering stance.

Ugh, I can't seem to post the link!

Funny how some of the comments are telling Todd to "stick to singing".

I've been looking very forward to say the least for this release, but I hope he doesn't go too heavy. I'd like something in the vein of the Queensryche material or in tune with his live Crimson Glory performances. I don't necessarily want a thrash album full of cookie monster growling  C:-)

"If you are someone not wearing a mask, you are part of the problem. 125k DEAD, 2.5 MILLION cases and rising. This selfishness couldn't be more evident.

"You want to get back to work? You want to go out and socialize someday? Put your fucking mask on!!!"

I can certainly appreciate where Todd's coming from. His livelihood depends on performing for people, and he can't do that if things don't get better. And doctors are saying you need to wear masks to flatten the curve. Seems pretty simple to me. I don't wear a mask all the time, but certainly whenever I go out to a store (which even that is pretty rare these days). Things seem far worse in America than in Canada, that's for sure.

It's good that Todd is speaking out about it though, even if it costs the band fans. Or whatever.
